Invercargill, New Zealand
Population:
48,000
Worst Feature:
Cold and coal smoke
Best Feature:
Inspiration for the “Invercargill Military March”
Our second entry from New Zealand, Invercargill is not included because it
smells, but because located on the South Island of NZ, it is damn cold.
Maybe not as cold as Ulaan-Baatar, but still it is no tropical paradise. The
southernmost settlement in New Zealand Invercargill is blasted by Antarctic
winds in the winter.
And to top it off, most residents burn coal to keep
warm, making a brown haze that stays over the city through most of the
winter.
