A country that is best known for bagpipes, kilts, lochs, mountains and “Haggis” –
should be an idyllic place to live, but Ferguslie Park is
an exception - it is their own self-proclaimed Worst Place.
Another victim of industrial
collapse, Ferguslie residents are impoverished and largely unemployed since
the collapse of its economy once fuelled by mills and car factories that have
long since been abandoned.
Typical urban decay has followed. More than 50%
of the residents are unemployed, violent street crime is epidemic,
travellers
and residents alike refuse to venture out onto the streets at night.
Even
the buses stop running at 7PM.
In an act of sheer brilliance, Ferguslie
Pharmacists are located inside of their post office, giving out methadone to
heroin addicts in the same place vulnerable seniors collect to cash their
pension checks.
