Besides actually having a law on the books that states it is illegal to get
a moose drunk, there are several other things unpleasant about living in
Fairbanks. It has some of the most extreme swings of weather and temperature
of any city, with lows in the brutal, dark and long winters as low as –65
degrees F, and highs into the muggy 80’s in the all too brief summers.
Snowfall averages up to 70 inches in the winter. While summer brings
dangerous thunderstorms, and hailstorms of biblical proportions.
There is no
Garbage collection in Fairbanks, residents must take their garbage to a
central location, where it is picked up and driven to the dump.
Residents
have a name for this central garbage dump – its called Fairbanks.
