That doesn’t totally quench the spirit of its people, but it doesn’t help
either. Many of course have fled – to other African states and beyond. Those
that remain struggle. And no t least of those struggling are the street
children. The city streets may not be paved with gold, but they do continue
to attract the poorest of the poor. And it is not just in Brazzaville – any
city in the country has the same problem. Finally however the decision
makers seem to at least be attempting to deal with the situation. Many are
beggars, but others earn their money - carrying the luggage of ferry
passengers perhaps or working in stores. When and if they grow up I hope
they will not forget what they went through and seek change.
