This town has
been occupied since 100 B.C. and it is beginning to look old. It is in
beautiful surroundings and has a minute, but beautiful town centre. That is
it the rest is a dump or else is so hidden behind high metal gates guarded
by some of the fiercest dogs I have ever met so you can’t tell what it is
like.
Lots of
churches, but the ones you see are hardly visited. It is the one hidden
behind a used car dump where the action is on a Sunday morning. This is 20
years after the revolution, yet these people are still hiding. And do you
know anywhere where the price of a MacDonald’s is higher than a silver
service restaurant meal?

The hotel beds in
Brazov can be rather
old - so it's best to give them the bounce test. |

Help the Brazov Children's
Hospital with
The Cleaford Christian Trust
Brasov Children’s Hospital is a 350 bed, fairly modern,
hospital, with attached Polyclinic, serving patients aged between 1 day and
18 years, from anywhere in the Brasov County.
Finding the money for special milk formulae for sick babies is one of the
hospital’s biggest problems. We send what funds we can, but could always use
more help. These products are now available locally in Romania.
The hospital’s success in starting a physiotherapy room has been a great
encouragement, specially as it coincided with the development of a plastic
surgery department for burns victims. New cots have also been purchased as
local fundraising in Brasov has grown.
Rather than attempting to respond to sudden emergency requests from the
hospital pharmacy the Trust has committed to shipping a quarterly preplanned
list of antibiotics, asthma treatments and other medicines.
Occasionally we are asked by the hospital if we can help to provide vital
pieces of equipment. Let us tell you about two such occasions.
In 1999 the Trust was asked, as a matter of great urgency, to provide
industrial washing machines. The hospital explained that they had been
using very old machines which were totally ineffective. Failure to meet the
hygiene regulations would have meant hospital closure. Thanks to a generous
legacy we were able to supply and fit two excellent machines which are still
in constant use today (see photographs).
More recently we were asked if we could help to provide a good working
incubator. It became evident that this Children’s Hospital had only two
working incubators. Due to the generosity of a major supplier we were able
to provide a dozen brand new incubators.
